Expert counseling for trauma, anxiety, and women's issues
If you've experienced trauma, it's important to seek both physical and emotional safety. With specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Narrative Therapy, we can help you work through the trauma, develop healthy coping strategies, and reduce the impact of triggers on your wellbeing. We want you to find rest and freedom from the nightmares, flashbacks, avoidance, insomnia, mood swings, isolation, distrust, being in a high-alert state and relational impacts of your trauma. You do not have to be limited by your trauma.

In today's world, anxiety is the norm, but it doesn't have to be for you. We all deal with it at times, but that doesn't mean we have to let it run our lives. We can work on practical strategies to manage your symptoms so it is easier to function in the present while maintaining the long-term goal of reducing the intensity and frequency that your anxiety gets in the way of your friendships, life goals, or sleep. We often incorporate CBT, exposure, mindfulness based and somatic awareness approaches into a treatment plan that is designed in collaboration with you to meet your specific needs.

Women are tough. We have to endure a lot of things physically and emotionally that just comes with territory of being a woman. But if we never let that guard down and always show our "best" and least vulnerable face to others, things can start to feel super lonely. We miss out on depth of relationships and we start to have thoughts like, "What is wrong with me?" or believe everyone else is doing better than we are. When creating a treatment plan for women, we want to think about our physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual and relational health needs. As much as most of us hate the thought of going to a meet-up to try to make new friends, we need to start taking steps to build quality community.

As a therapist, I cannot guarantee that I will always have the perfect words to give you relief from painful memories or to calm your busy mind. What I can provide to you is undivided attention during our sessions, genuine care, and guidance in interventions that I know from first-hand experience treating clients and the research supporting them, can be transformative to your life if you choose to apply them. My style is warm, light-hearted, and goal-oriented.
My services are focused on young adults with a history of trauma, anxiety, or facing the ups and downs of pregnancy/postpartum. I love incorporating interventions that encourage you to challenge your thoughts, have greater acceptance towards yourself and others, guide you in practicing somatic awareness, and support you in facing feelings that many of us prefer to avoid. I integrate my training in Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure, Motivational Interviewing and Emotion-focused Therapy to do this effectively.
My background experience includes providing mental health services to children through adults with PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and mood disorders (eg. MDD, bipolar etc.). I previously provided structured family trauma therapy at the Tree House CAC, individual outpatient therapy at Bethesda Counseling Services, and crisis counseling at CCSI. I earned my MSW at Fordham University with a clinical focus on individuals and families.
Do you feel like you don't want to be a "burden" to others by sharing your feelings or talking about things that happened so long ago? Are you someone who lays up at night replaying events from that day because you think you offended somebody? Do you feel like an emotional roller-coaster and not sure how much of it is due to hormones? If you are someone who has childhood trauma, anxiety, and/or is navigating the challenges of womanhood, I want to walk with you through the weird, embarrassing, and painful parts of your life so that you can find comfort, acceptance, and hope.
All of our services are offered using a telehealth/video platform.
Apart from intakes, diagnostic sessions, and EMDR treatment, my in-session structure tends to be captured by three words - connect, reflect, and direct.
Connect: When a client comes in after a long week, it can be hard to jump right into interventions. I think it’s important to start with a check in to see what has been happening this week and how that’s affected them, sometimes guiding the client through a relaxation exercise if it seems like that would be beneficial.
Reflect: I usually reflect on what a client has shared and ask the client follow-up questions to encourage the client to explore further what they have shared as well.
Direct: This is where I may provide relevant information to a client about challenges he or she is facing to enhance the client’s understanding of factors impacting them, guidance in the use of new coping skills, and/or follow-up on any skills we agreed on incorporating from our previous sessions.
Note: The expectation is for clients to attend weekly, or at the frequency agreed upon with the clinician, until the client and therapist agree that a reduced frequency schedule is appropriate clinically for progress. Some clients may meet more than once per week. Inconsistencies in attendance could impact client progress and may result in a discontinuation of services.
We will take a collaborative approach in setting treatment goals, and use assessments to monitor your progress. Sessions tend to be integrative of various models and approaches (CBT, motivational interviewing, ACT, mindfulness-based etc.) unless specified as a structured therapy, such as EMDR.
Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based treatment most commonly used to treat PTSD and addiction. It entails a patient briefly focusing on a traumatic memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (eye-movements or tapping), which is intended to reduce emotional associations with traumatic memories.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based treatment proven effective in treating PTSD, anxiety, depression, and various other mental health disorders. CBT aims to raise awareness about inaccurate or negative thinking to be able to identify and challenge thoughts and reduce their negative impact on your well-being.
The role of faith in therapy is not to tell you what to believe or to answer your most burning theological questions. We create space to process thoughts and feelings about faith, examine how that connects with overall well-being, internal turmoil, or history, and pull from the resources that currently or previously have helped you - such as prayer, journaling, or being connected with a faith-based community.
